Pets are an important aspect of our health and well-being. Chronic pain and arthritis are key health problems as our pets age. PEMF is a new technology now available to enable us to provide quality of life relief for these conditions to our rescue dogs at the Old Friends Senior & Special Needs Dog Sanctuary (OFS), the rescue dogs maintained for Best Friends Animal Rescue (BFA) in volunteer foster carer homes, and to the pets of those who come to us for help.
Best Friends Animal Rescue is an unusual dog rescue in that we specialise in taking in, rehabilitating and rehoming senior and special needs animals. We have a purpose built Old Friends Senior and Special Needs Dog Sanctuary building, built and run entirely by volunteers, that houses our rescues in a home-like environment while the rehabilitation takes place. Due to the nature of the animals in our charge, we deal with many animals with chronic pain in muscles, bones and joints. Our experience with physiotherapists who assist us have shown that the use of a Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) device significantly improves the pain relief and mobility of the animals in our care.
In cooperation with our veterinary and physiotherapy practioners (thank you Carmel Keylock of Active Pet Rehab), this therapy helps reduce the need to transport vulnerable dogs long distances; and the increasing of the frequency with which they can receive the pain relief supplied by the device will maximise their recovery, shorten rehabilitation times and lead to significant gains in their mobility. Additionally, we maintain a widespread network of volunteer foster carers, where we are now able to arrange regular visits to give physiotherapy to our dogs maintained throughout the Perth region. BFA also has a good working relationship with other local rescue groups who we are now in a position to assist if any of their dogs are suffering from conditions treatable by PEMF. A few of these conditions include: muscle injuries, swelling, tears, speeding up bone healing and muscle toning.
With the help of Mundaring Bendigo Bank's Community Grant money, Best Friends received our PEMF machine (TGS MP-9) from I.D. Stewart Pty. Ltd. in early December 2024 and have been successfully using it to treat arthritic dogs to improve their mobility as well as a variety of other chronic health conditions, both at the OFS and in our foster carers homes.
A THOUSAND BLESSINGS ON YOU MUNDARING BENDIGO COMMUNITY BANK!!! THANK YOU!

1. & 2. Giselle, a 17 year old English Staffordshire Terrier with extreme food allergies leading to chronic skin lesions and arthritic hips. Giselle had stopped going walkies with the pack back in October and November 2024. She is now receiving regular PEMF sessions and has resumed going on the pack walks.
3. Eighteen year old Jack Russell Terrier Toby has arthritis in his hocks and hips. He had never been walkies until he came to BFA and had very poor musculature in his legs. Though he is losing his eye sight he is still enjoying walkies and loves his sessions under the PEMF pad.
4. Fourteen year Chevy is an English Staffordshire Terrier whose owner passed. Chevy has an inoperable tumour and BFA is determined to give him all the best quality of life while his spirits and appetite remain. The PEMF treatment helps to clear up his runny mucus and ease his muscles and provide a lovely quiet time with his friend Giselle.
